About MeThis is my 6th year teaching at David Gourley Elementary, but my 3rd year teaching the sixth grade. Since I was a young child, I wanted to be a teacher. I believe teaching is the cornerstone of this world and I am so proud to be a part of it! I love teaching and am excited to see what this year brings!
I like to use ClassDojo in my classroom. This is a great program for me to track student behavior and keep in touch with parents. This year will definitely be different for all of us. I believe that if we work together, we will be able to achieve a learning environment that is productive and engaging. Please contact me anytime with questions! Daily Schedule8:35-8:50: breakfast

Standards Based Learning |
In 6th grade we use Standards Based Learning for math, language arts, science, social studies, and writing. Students’ grades will be a reflection of their mastery of state standards. Assessments and essays are the primary source for grading. Students will have multiple attempts to take assessments in each standard to demonstrate their learning. Grades will never be based on a single test score.
Each term, there are detailed reports available upon parent request that would show each assessment score that contributes to each students’ grade. We saw great success with this system during the last school year. Standards Based Grading gives teachers, parents, and students a much clearer picture of the skills that students have mastered, as well as skills that require additional work. We work closely with all students to ensure that they understand their progress and that there are multiple opportunities for them to demonstrate that they have mastered a skill. |
General Information |
We will begin school at 8:35am and our day ends at 3:20pm. On Fridays the day will end at 1:15.
We are always looking for parent volunteers to come in and help in the classroom, please email or call me if you are available. We will plan to take 1-2 fieldtrips this year. I will let parents know when and where we are going as soon as we have them planned. Homework Policy: We are doing a school wide program this year where each of our students will be practicing some math flash cards. In the 6th, grade we want our students to become fluent in their multiplication and division facts. I am asking that each of my students practice with their flash cards for 10 to 15 minutes every school night. I will not be sending home any other math homework. |
